Chief Minister Katy Gallagher today joined Canberra Airport Executive Chairman Mr Terry Snow to officially open the new Majura Park Shopping Centre.
"The new Majura Park Shopping Centre will contribute over 400 new retail positions and lift employment located at Canberra Airport to over 10,000 workers," the Chief Minister said.
"The official opening of the MajuraPark Shopping Centre marks another significant milestone in CanberraAirport's business development strategy.
"In Just over a decade, the Canberra Airport has grown into a multifaceted transport, business and retail gateway which contributes significantly to Canberra's economy," the Chief Minister said.
Tenants at the new Majura Park development will include Canberra's largest Woolworths Supermarket, a Big W, Dick Smith and 35 specialty retail stores. The Centre will also feature a 250 seat food court and a choice of food outlets and coffee shops.
The latest retail trade figures show a seasonally adjusted growth of 2.1% in retail turnover in the ACT.
"The opening of this new shopping precinct is another clear signal from the business community of their confidence in the ACT economy. There is confidence in our city, in our spending power and confidence in the future," the Chief Minister said."The ACT Labor Government is working hard to ensure the continued growth of the ACT economy, which will see more job and help Canberrans maintain their high standard of living," the Chief Minister concluded.
